# Find out what happens after the first visit.

Suppose the first visit goes well. Before paying for ongoing care, you want a clear picture of who answers later questions.

## Name the contact you are paying for

Ask who reads your messages. How would a question about your medicine reach the person who prescribed it? What would a further appointment cost?

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s patient checklist asks whether a licensed doctor remains available when questions arise after delivery.

Ask what “support included” pays for: help with your account, answers about treatment, a later appointment, or all of these.

## A screen does not answer every need

Medical-board guidance calls for a referral if an examination or needed test requires the patient to attend in person.

The same guidance holds remote care to the professional standard used for an in-person visit.

These standards guide the state boards; each state has its own rules. Ask the service to explain its arrangements in terms you could use if you needed help.

## Keep later charges in the budget

- Which later visits are included in the fee?

- Who reviews results and explains changes?

- What costs extra if care needs to move in person?

- How do I obtain my records if I change who treats me?

Write the ongoing plan beside the opening price. The care decision is easier to weigh when both are visible.

## Keep this thought

Ask who handles bills and who answers questions about your medicine. Find out how to reach each person.

This is a guide for thinking through care and its costs, with no appointments or medicine to offer.
